Much of the information known about Brachiosaurus is based on Giraffatitan, is a species of brachiosaurid dinosaur from the Tendaguru Formation of Tanzania, which was first described by German paleontologist Werner Janensch as Brachiosaurus in 1914. Subsequent studies indicated that the differences between Brachiosaurus and Tendaguru were significant enough that the material from Africa needed to be classified in a different genus. Several possible Brachiosaurus species have been reported from Africa and Europe, but unfortunately none of them are considered to have been part of the majestic Brachiosaurus.
